Apple MacBook Flex gate repair

If you are the owner of an Apple MacBook, you may have experienced random, unexplained display issues on some models. You may have seen your screen begin to flicker or maybe it goes black when you open or close it. This is a common issue known as “Flexgate.”

This issue occurs due to a faulty display cable that connects the screen to the logic board. These were designed just a few millimeters too short, so over time they stretch and crack, breaking the connection inside them.

Fortunately, with a lot of experience and practice, this issue can be resolved with a repair on the flex. This process involves cutting back the original cable and splicing on a new one.

Step 1: Diagnosis and assessment

The first step in repairing a MacBook with flex gate issues is to investigate and  diagnose the problem. Our trained technicians perform a thorough check of your device to identify the root cause of the issue. We use Apple’s own specialized tools and software to run a comprehensive diagnostic test to determine the exact nature of the problem. Once the diagnosis is complete, we can update you with our findings and begin the repair.

Step 2: Disassembly

Once the problem has been identified, the next step is to disassemble the MacBook. This involves carefully removing the screen to allow us to work on the flex cables at the bottom of the display. Our technicians take great care to ensure that every part is removed carefully and correctly to avoid causing any damage to your device.

Step 3: Repair of the backlight flex cable

The flex gate issue occurs due to a faulty backlight flex. Our technicians will repair the old cable by splicing a new flex on to the old one, whilst slightly lengthening the flex to ensure longevity of the repair.

Step 4: Reassembly

After the repair is complete, our technicians reassemble the MacBook carefully, ensuring that every part is in place and functioning correctly. We take the time to test the device to make sure that it is fully working and that the issue has been resolved.

Step 5: Final testing

Before returning the MacBook to our client, our technicians perform a final testing procedure to ensure a satisfactory result. We test every component of the device including the display, keyboard, trackpad, and other peripherals to make sure that the device is fully functional before it is returned to its owner.

If you think you may be experiencing the Flex Gate issue with your MacBook, don’t hesitate to get in touch to book a repair.
